Milwaukee Bucks will ban smoking in entire arena district

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks have decided that the Fiserv Forum and the 30-acre district entertainment block will be completely smoke-free.

In an interview with The Milwaukee Business Journal, Bucks President Peter Feigin said that his organization wants to "create a healthy neighborhood and community." In the past, many arenas have made designated smoking areas, but the Bucks are taking this much further.

“We’re going way beyond what the city and the state require by not allowing smoking in the street and (public) plaza and parking structure and the sports science center,” Feigin said. “But we felt it made sense to umbrella the entire neighborhood.”

Banning smoking is one of the steps in attaining LEED silver certification, the most widely used green-building rating system in the world. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
