While the Milwaukee Brewers continue to be at or near the top of most Major League offensive categories, one key member of last year’ club has been struggling to find the same form that made him indispensible in 2016.
Second baseman Jonathan Villar enters Thursday night’s series opener with St. Louis batting just .138 (9-65) with 26 strikeouts and just five walks.
“For now we’re looking at it as a guy who’s gotten off to a little bit of a sluggish start and is probably pressing a little bit at this point,” Brewers General Manager David Stearns told WTMJ’s Wisconsin’s Morning News on Thursday. “We probably have a couple of guys who fall into that category. So, for young players, the best thing you can do is keep giving them encouragement and allow them to work through their struggles.”
Radio coverage of Thursday night’s series opener between the Brewers and Cardinals can be heard on 94.5 FM, WKTI (“KTI Country”) beginning at 6:35.
