Wagner: Is it time to tear down the Milwaukee County Mitchell Park Domes?

The Jeff Wagner Show

Milwaukee County is considering eight potential options for what to do with the iconic yet deteriorating Mitchell Park Domes in the Menomonee Valley of the City of Milwaukee.

A task force is considering eight different options with different capital cost allowances and potential financial outcomes, as described in a county report):
- 1) Do nothing ($0 capital cost, net revenue loss)
- 2) Demolish domes ($10-15 million, net revenue unknown)
- 3) Address deferred maintenance ($20-30 million, net revenue loss)
- 4) Targeted investments ($40-50 million, "improved ratio of revenue to costs)
- 5) EcoDome destination attraction ($70-95 million, "Higher earned and contributed revenues support increased operational cost. Likely can cap County contribution to agreed amount.")
- 6) Adventure Dome destination attraction ($70-95 million, "Higher earned and contributed revenues support increased operational cost. Likely can cap County contribution to agreed amount.")
- 7) Hybrid redevelopment EcoDome destination attraction ($70-95 million, "Higher earned and contributed revenues support increased operational cost. Likely can cap County contribution to agreed amount.")
- 8) Hybrid redevelopment Adventure Dome destination attraction ($70-95 million, "Higher earned and contributed revenues support increased operational cost. Likely can cap County contribution to agreed amount.")

As Jeff Wagner says, "The Mitchell Park Domes are falling apart and it's time to decide what to do with them? Some say 'double down.' I think "tear down" makes the most sense."
