Parents who lost children in Israel, Palestine to speak at UWM

The Parents' Circle Families Forum is an organization made up of bereaved families who have had children or family members die in the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine. Two members of the organization will appear at the UW-Milwaukee student union tonight to talk about the importance of reconciliation.

Jewish Community Relations Council Director Elana Kahn says she's inspired by these speakers.

"They have given up on their natural right to revenge, after losing the most precious thing, and instead chosen a path of reconciliation," says Kahn.

Kahn also says reconciliation means not having to forgive the person who killed their children.

"You have to be able to see that that other person is also, in some way, a victim of what they've been taught and what they've experienced," says Kahn.

Kahn says reconciliation is also important when working on things like peace agreements, policy changes, and police-community relations.

Speakers from the Parents' Circle Families Forum will appear at the UW-Milwaukee student union tonight at 7PM.
