One intersection in Milwaukee's downtown will be getting a colorful addition starting Saturday.
Two rainbow colored crosswalks will be added to the current crosswalks at North Jefferson Street and East Wells Street starting at 10 a.m. Members of the City of Milwaukee government and leaders of the LBGTQ community will be on hand to watch its start.
The installation comes following the approval of a permit for it, and guidelines for its use. The rainbow design is being used since it is used as a symbol for the LBGTQ community.
Where the rainbow crosswalks are being put into place hold significants to the Milwaukee LGBTQ community. Nearby is the tavern This Is It!, considered one of the nation's longest-operating bars for the community. It was also at nearby Cathedral Square, where back on June 17, 1989 the first Milwaukee Pride March and Rally took place.
