Local company turns to Africa amid North American salt shortage

With Milwaukee set to receive its first snowfall of the season Friday morning, a local company is getting creative with its preparations.

Salt in North America is in short supply, so MCR Group, a local snow removal company, is looking to Africa.

Port Director at the Port of Milwaukee, Adam Schlicht, is confident the area will have enough to survive the winter. He said the port has already seen about 700,000 tons of salt brought in by vessel so far. That includes 32,000 tons of salt from Morocoo, which is being bought by MCR Group.

At least 10 more vessels carrying salt will arrive at the port from now until Feb. 15.
