Josh Wurster

Josh Wurster joined TODAY'S TMJ4 in June 2017. Prior to moving to Milwaukee, Josh worked as a meteorologist at KSTP in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Despite spending two years working in Minnesota and graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from St. Cloud State University, Josh is a Wisconsinite at heart. He was born and raised in Wausau until he crossed the border after high school graduation.

While in college, Josh had the unique opportunity to participate in multiple research projects. He was able to work with National Weather Service offices across the nation to determine how to best relay the message on hazardous winter storms. He continue to use this knowledge today to relay the important impacts of an impending winter storm. Additionally, he completed a project with the United States Air Force to look at weather patterns in the Rocky Mountains and how wildfires create their own air circulations in hopes to improve fire forecasting in complex terrain.

Growing up in northern Wisconsin, Josh and his family spent many hours outdoors - hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and horseback riding. These activities gave him an appreciation for weather forecasting. Is it warm enough to spend the day on the water? Will the wind affect hunting plans? Will it rain anytime soon, or can the hay fields be cut? It was this interest and curiosity that caused his high school to set up a job shadow with the local TV station. This is when Josh met Storm Team 4 meteorologist Brian Niznansky, who he interned with for the next three years and helped prepare him for a career in Meteorology.

When Josh isn't working, he continues to enjoy time outdoors and is especially excited to be living on Lake Michigan. He is usually with his dog, Vinny, who he adopted during college, and is the best roommate, fishing partner, and hiking/camping buddy around. Vinny even enjoys riding along on the stand-up paddle board.
