The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) - seeking to add at least one university to it's roster - will meet with member institution Presidents Monday, May 8 to discuss options for replacing Wichita State. The Journal Star reports that seven votes are required to invite a new member or members to join the conference.
As was reported by WTMJ last week, officials from the MVC spent time in Milwaukee meeting with leaders at UWM, but a formal offer to join the MVC was not extended.
According to multiple reports, conference officials also met with leaders at Valparaiso, Nebraska-Omaha and Murray State without extending an offer to join.
When asked if an offer to join the MVC would be extended to UWM, a source close to the athletic department told WTMJ it is "not likely".
With Wichita State leaving the MVC for the American Athletic Conference, MVC officials are seeking to add at least one university to maintain a 10-school conference. It is believed the MVC is also exploring the option of expanding to a 12-school conference in the next several years.
