It appears the injury that Eddie Lacy played with on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys might be even worse than initially thought.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport says the running back will reportedly need surgery.
#Packers RB Eddie Lacy suffered more than an ankle sprain, and after a 2nd opinion, surgery is necessary. He’ll be placed on Injured Reserve— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 20, 2016
The Packers confirmed the injured reserve placement for Lacy, signing Don Jackson off the practice squad..
The #Packers will determine later if Eddie Lacy’s season is over. But tonight, newly promoted RB Don Jackson will be the main back.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 20, 2016
Lacy injured the ankle nine days ago in a game against the New York Giants. He played through the injury against Dallas Sunday night.
Lacy may be able to return, as the Packers have not yet chosen their designated-for-return player for this year. It would most likely be either Lacy or Sam Shields at cornerback, who is also injured with a concussion.
This news also comes at a time where backup running back James Starks is out with a torn meniscus for what is estimated to be up to four weeks.
