Waukesha County announced Thursday it will end the operation of Wanaki Golf Course at the close of the 2019 golf season.
The course, located on W20830 Lisbon Road N50 in menomonee Falls, has been open for 49 years.
The county said that the course had operated at a loss for years, tapping greatly into the county's reserve fund for golf courses, and needed repairs would cost $645,000.
"While the decision to close Wanaki Golf Course is emotional, it's the only way to continue to offer any golf programs for residents," said Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow.
"Our staff has worked for years to bring in more revenue to keep the course open, but we've run out of options."
The county says that it not had to use yearly tax collections to pay for the course.
Two more courses, Naga-Waukee War Memorial and Moor Downs, will stay open.
