The Mayor of Racine will officially resign Sunday night to take on a new role as president of a regional coalition.
Mayor John Dickert announced via a spokesperson that his resignation will be effective at 11:59 p.m. Sunday night. Common Council President Dennis Wiser will act as mayor until the council chooses a temporary mayor; then a special election will be held.
Dickert announced earlier this year that he is stepping down to take over the role of President and Chief Administrative Officer with the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.
“After some thorough reflection and discussion with my family, I have decided it is time to step back from the city to stand up for water on a bigger stage,” Dickert said in a statement when initially mentioning his retirement.
