After a few years of inactivity, the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation is back with new personnel, raising money for electives like Drivers Ed. MPS Superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver says the skills students learn in that class is incredibly important.
"This is how you vote. This is how you build your credit. This is how you can acquire property. This is how you travel," says Driver. "How many employers do you go to and one of the first questions they ask is 'do you have a valid driver's license?'"
Other disciplines for which the MPS Foundation hopes to raise money are the arts and technology.
"Hopefully we could be a force to introduce modern technology into the classrooms," says SysLogic CEO and MPS Foundation partner Tina Chang.
The group hopes to raise one million dollars by the end of 2016.
