Milwaukee mother charged in the death of her 16-year-old son who weighed 42 pounds

A Milwaukee mother is being charged in the death of her 16-year-old son, who died weighing 42 pounds.

Iraida Pizarro-Osorio is facing a felony charge of chronic neglect of a child.

According to a criminal complaint, Pizarro-Osorio brought her son to a health center when she found him unresponsive in his bedroom with blood coming out of his mouth.

She told investigators her son suffered from a genetic disorder, which caused seizures, epilepsy and autism.

When asked why she didn't take her son to the emergency room, Pizarro-Osorio told investigators she was scared that child protective services would be called to take him away.

In an interview after her son's death, Pizarro-Osorio's 18-year-old daughter said her mother had a lock on her son's door to make sure he didn't leave his room at night.

An autopsy revealed the teen died of severe malnutrition with ulcers on his hips and shoulder.

Pizarro-Osorio faces up to 25 years in prison.
