One in custody following active shooter situation in Germantown

One person is in police custody after an active shooter situation in Germantown this morning.

Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell tells WTMJ the call came in around 6 o'clock Wednesday morning and when police arrived at the home the suspect exited the residence with guns drawn and began firing.

It was then, Hoell says, police called in the negotiating team and was able to arrest the suspect without further incident.

The suspect, who at this time is only being identified as a male in his seventies, is in police custody and is expected to undergo a mental health evaluation.




UPDATE (7:00 a.m.):

Police now have one person in custody.

An active shooter situation happening this morning in Germantown.

Germantown Police say they are responding to an active shooter situation near Kennedy Middle School.

The shooting is not at the school, but police are using the area outside the school as a staging area.

Both McCarther Elementary School and Kennedy Middle School are on a two-hour delay.
